Montego Bay is the capital of the parish St. James and is popularly known as the second city. This destination is home to Jamaica’s national hero, Sam Sharpe. Large gatherings of visitors to the island can often be seen at the monument erected in his honour, located at the Sam Sharpe Square in the centre of downtown Montego Bay, which gives a historical depiction of Sam Sharpe as an anti-slavery activist during the 1800’s.

Besides from the rich heritage of this second city, Montego Bay is well-known for its attractions and beautiful beaches. Outside of Montego Bay’s commercial core, there are several entertainment options including sports bars and clubs on the hit strip, and local annual events such as Reggae Sumfest. A few popular beaches in Montego Bay include Doctor’s Cave Beach and Walter Fletcher Beach & Aquasol amusement park. You can also enjoy water activities like snorkelling and diving at coral reefs in the protected waters of Montego Bay Marine Park.
